Artist: Emre Hüner's [ELEKTROİZOLASYON]: Unknown Parameter Extro-Record

Emre Hüner’s [ELEKTROİZOLASYON]: Unknown Parameter Extro-Record (2021) utilises a semi-fictional script as mediating device for the works adoption of different media; sculptures, installations, photo-etchings, silkscreen prints, film and texts.[1 E] Subsequently, releasing the script from its prior function of seeking a conclusive outcome, and instead transforms into an act of writing and process. [2]

Utilising improvisation, repetition, variety of scale and medium the project explores the binaries of the artificial and the biological and the mechanical and the organic. [3] While the utilisation of technology and built objects combines explorative, experimental and improvisational practices of the artist, scientist, mechanic, plumber and electrician. [4]

The project combines notions of ficto-critic explores an “infrastructural techno-subjectivity,” creating a sense of performative production process to propose a speculative world in construction which questions object potentials. [5]

There is great reference to the notion of the industrial design, processes and production. A process where plans to objects inherently results in outcomes of different mediums and visual implications. Additionally, processes of nature, such as volcanology and decay, are utilised. [6] And, the adoption of experimentation, not as a means of creating ,the progressing work or finding the best outcome, but as a process that becomes essential to the overall concept.

The material for the created objects, such as car parts and medical objects, were sourced from Hüner’s local neighbourhoods and factories.These sourced objects are not only artefact of industrial processes, rather once they are combined and built into new forms become sculptures “that carry their own narrative”. [7]

What is evident in [ELEKTROİZOLASYON]: Unknown Parameter Extro-Record is selective combination both materially and conceptually. Mimicry, repetition, documentation, citation examine the relation space between different professions, mediums and modernity’s binaries: conductivity and resistance.[8] Each step of creation and documentation its folded back into the next. Creating a work that has layers, scales of reflexivity and acknowledges it past and context. [9]
