Some artists/ installs I've been looking at:

objects + projection

https://lucabertea.tumblr.com/post/134537283251/prostheticknowledge-allocation-art-installation

- Hanging/suspended install

- Perspex or poly and eight core wire.

- Surfaces or places - as substrates to project onto, to attach or sit objects onto, to sit or apply drawings to.

- Overlapping of these different surfaces which in turn creates relationships between the objects represented or present

- mostly outsourced manufacturing. Perspex or clear plastic sheeting aids in this layering inherently and allows things to be layered without direct contact aka "through view." Where the local of the viewer changes the layering - through perspective and general body positioning.

- Could present the most difficulty in install - quicker to manufacture but more labour intensive on site - which could also be problematic in the current covid climate.

- Clear perspex 3mm and 1.5^2 metal pipe

- Continuing thinking about overlapping - pushing this further

- More inter linked/ complicated structures

- Thinking about how projectors could be projecting up or down was and not just level

- Different heights and layers

- Easier to play with install at home - can be changed shifted easier than suspended install

- Still quite "formal"

- In this test I'm thinking about the presentation planes/devices being sculptural forms themselves.

- They are not "arranged" here.

- Form wise I was interested in abstracting some forms from retro-futuristic designs of the 60's - not that I want an overt reference to this - I just like the speculative nature of that era of domestic design and furniture design.

- I think this is perhaps the most "playful" instal, but I wonder if form of presentation fights with the objects and if this important... having form could also indicate futher context perhaps? and seem less neutral than the above tests. Perhaps this complicating of reading is more interesting... maybe a mixture of box could also be an option.

- Note I haven really thought about material - I think perspex is applicable to some and not others, maybe wood also. I'm wondering if continuity of material is important of it adds to the idea of a disparite gathering of things?

Mixed test

- Though I thought these more sculptural objects might get read as "objects" because of the overt difference in "style" between them and the more "formal" supports... having them in the same material or colour realises minimises their "object-ness"

- this relationship between the sculptural, the object and the formal feels like an important thing to balance, or rather, explore in regard to install - as it mirrors my interest in speculative objects physicality or classifications (idea, prototype, drawing, object sculpture etc.) themselves. This kind of navigating the idea of an expanded field of sculpture and the speculative.
