Objects

objects - colours/material likely to be swapped.

Souvenmomento - A brain chip like device that stores memories from the brain

I was interested in the idea of the self propelling / fuelling machine - which is said to be a machine that will be a "cure" all.

form - interested in spark plug - some type of charge holder and disperser

ree

- inspired by vintage concave reflective candles holders but adding a dish which could be utilised to melt and inhale medinical vapours

Tests for Drawings

The following tests use perspex as a ground - thinking about how works could be applied to the presentation devices/ structures, talked about in last zoom meeting, which themselves are in the form of objects/object parts, offcuts etc.

ree

Tests with transferred digital drawings.. Using acrylic medium to transfer printed images onto perspex / acrylic. Wit this application the drawing becomes an almost seamless part of the perspex.

The issue with this type of transfer is you have to rub away the layers of paper 'till you reach the image while wet. Make it extremely fragile - especially on some other tests I did where there was no background and just the object.

test with inkjet transfer (fail)

laser jet transfer on Polypropylene (test) was a rough print hence horizontal lines.

Testing 0.8 mm Polypropylene which is far more malleable than acrylic and can be cut easier at home. (below)

Install ground (laser cut shapes)

Tests using frosted spray paint to create area for projection onto perspex.

(photos)

I think perspex is a risky presentation material that probably need further experimentation with high grade (and expensive) film. I have tested with both pre-frosted perspex and self frosting perspex and due to the brightness of the portable projectors a more solid ground is more advantageous. Also the shine of the perspex and the visibility of the lamp is quite distracting.

test with larger (brighter but 1.6m min throw and roughly 1000x 600 projection size)

In email I said I thought that this wasn't sturdy end for cut shapes.. but up to 6mm is available. I just have to double check the laser cutters use these. Or otherwise white frosted perspex would give a similar effect.

It also allows for more flexible install, where I can test on site during install week. frosting area means I am stuck with where-ever I frost. One option that could be explored if im interested in the a level of transparency of acrylic is vellum... which could be could to cut into shapes and hung..

.svg (below) for laser cutter (shapes from objects - some .svgs export weird shapes / sections of the objects - "parts" rather than silhouettes of the whole object - as it exports them like paper models to be built. I kinda of like this though, feels more open and obscure?)

Reflections:

I'm interested in how the work of reflects the idea of an wanderkammer... random and "whimsical" , curated but not as tightly as museological. A collection of disparate things...

I wonder if it seems too random, to my other works - stylistically as an outlier - especially the page with the photo collages .. but perhaps these can be tied into my catelogue too? or a moving image work? .. originally I was going to use them for a photo book kind of work called "codex and memorabilia".
